Here are a few sketches from tonight's drawing class. The model had very interesting gestures, although I didn't manage to capture any of them well. So these are not very dynamic, but I like them.

Illustration friday- Breakfast

I don't think my dream of midnight box stacking at the Container Store is happening. I planned to count my shifts as weight lifting workouts. I'm always thinking about my marathon training ")

As you may or may not have read from my horrible cover letter...the best part was my Murray bike shout out. Oh well, if writing is rewriting then maybe applying for mindless grunt work is reapplying mindless grunt work or something like that. Anyway, I thought I would start doing some animation. This prompted me to clean off my camera stand. I found a 6 month old typed unsent letter addressed to Tricia. So if Tricia reads this...know that it is now in my bag wihout a stamp. Which means you will get it... someday.

The animation thing did not happen today, but I did stumble onto making my first entry for Illustration Friday.-The online illustration showcase. The theme is "Breakfast." The thing that came to mind was a song called The World Should Revolve Around Me by Little Jackie. The lyric is "...which came first the Chicken Nugget or the Egg McMuffin?" Since I didn't find any ads or illustrations for it, I thought I would try. Here is my sketch.

C0ntainer Store letter

Today I decided to apply to the c*ntainer store for part-time late night or early morning shifts. I hope to stock boxes as I don't think I can be cheerful toward anyone at those hours. Although I've had some freelance work, it hasn't been enough to live on. So my idea is to get a part-time gig and try to keep the daytime hours free for more lucrative work.

The problem with my online application is that it looks completely fake. My last employer was one the top ad agencies in NYC. My second to last job was Animation Instructor for the largest animation company in Malaysia (which no longer exists). The 3rd and last job title I entered was Cashier at a pizzeria. It wasn't completely chronological but I wanted them to read something close to Retail. Unfortunately, I listed my reason for leaving was to work on a film set in NJ. I sound very reliable. Anyway, I thought the only way to redeem my application was to write a cover letter stating all the none art related jobs I have had in the last 20 years.

Here is my far from great letter: I there are about 100 "I"'s but whatever. eh grammar.

Hello C0ntainer Store,

I have a BFA from the of School of Visu@l Arts majoring in Traditional Animation. Although most of my employment application shows non-retail work...I began working as a paper carrier at the age of 11.
I threw papers for over 3 years. I carried over 100 new papers either on my shoulders or around the handle bars of my Murray bicycle. I interacted with costumers and woke up very early on Saturday mornings. At age 13 I took up a second part-time job at the Paris Park Pool concession stand. I was responsible serving costumers as well as the end-of -day money count. Until I was 15, I served fountain drinks and chili cheese Frito pies at a number of small concession stand sporting events.

Later, I was hired as a cook at Pizza Hut. My responsibilities included making pizza, stocking the counter and washing dishes. I enjoyed washing dishes most. I often closed. My schoolwork suffered do to the late nights, so I had to leave.

During my senior year of high school I began working as a cashier for McDonald's. My responsibilities included taking orders at the counter and drive-thru, making fries, and closing. I often worked the Saturday and Sunday morning shift when the farmers came into town for breakfast. The line would spill out the front door.

While in collage, I animated for a number of student and independent films for cash, landscaped, and scanned/colored animation for the company, Possible Worlds. Also I created an animated opening for a Loews Cineplex training video. After graduation, my job titles have included Nanny, Film Production Assistant, Driver, Animation Director, Animatic Editor, Illustrator, Storyboard Artist, Graphic Designer and Background Artist.

When I am not working or looking work, I am training for the 2010 ING NYC Marathon with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. I do not use drugs although I drink socially. I also enjoy playing soccer and riding my bike. And of course I love to lift boxes and place them neatly. I hope I can join your team.

Madmen yourself

I don't know why I spent so much time on this. I added a lot. I have to confess that I have only watched the first episode. So, I don't know really anything about the show. I'm assuming this is the main character's wife?

So my dad saw this picture and asked "Is that supposed to be you? Why don't you dress like that all the time?" completely ignoring the gun, scattered pills, empty martini glasses, bag of cash and chain-smoking pissed off wife.
