In another competition :)

I am in the NexTV Directors Competition. I hope you will vote for my films...You don't have to sign up...just click VOTE by my name. I will buy you coffee or something, really.

This sounds like a cool contest because the final judging panel consists of producers from Disney and other major studios. I don't know if I even have a chance, but it's still worth a shot. So I hope you will click and vote.

I'm in the ING NYC Marathon Nov. 7th

Huge thanks to everyone who helped me raise over $4,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I will be running with Team in Training- the LLS's team. We wear purple.

If anyone would like to cheer me on here is the course...My start time is probably 10:40 am but if I'm lucky could be 10:10. I'm guessing to run about 12:30 min miles.

Here is a map of the course:

Vreeland

I usually don't watermark but this is the image I just sent off.

Yes, another night of not sleeping. Didn't plan on it. I started drawing this picture earlier today. After showing Nelson, he suggested I finish it with pen and ink. It sounded like a good idea only my pen and ink went on vacation. After hours of cleaning they were in obvious places. Anyway, this isn't really real. I scanned the marker and pencil separately and added photoshop shadows. I hope it looks like Vreeland and not too cartoony. The referenced image showed her as much older. I wanted to flatter her as much possible since the person asking for the drawing shared her last name. I wonder if I could animate this.

I'm working more these days. It's great except for making time to run and sleep. Eventually, I will get paid. My landlord came by with the exterminator today. He didn't mention all the back rent, but I made a point to tell him that I'm getting more jobs now. He seemed happy about that. I forgot about the tub and leaky bathroom ceiling (once in a while). That will be for another time... like when I don't feel like a squatter. Hope it all stays together until then.

commitment

The container store thinks I'm afraid of commitment.

This week is good for work. Sent a storyboard off today. Hope it brings good feedback. I could be working now...but I'm aiming to sleep soon and do some work in a cafe or coffee shop tomorrow morning. I'm helping a friend with her comic which is due for print very soon. A few days ago we met up in the SVA library. I got another called from the container store which sent me dashing out into the stairwell... anyone walking into the school could hear me botch up my phone interview.

I started off by telling her how I freelanced and was looking for part-time work to make ends meet. She seemed to like that. This job is the graveyard shift 3 nights a week including the weekends, although the nights change. Still sounded ok. She asked for my availability. I began to say anytime, then thought of the two projects -possibly 3 - that came up this week. There was a hesitation before the "Soon?". Almost terrified I remembered the marathon and my training runs. I told her about the race and explained that I could not work marathon weekend, but quickly followed up with "any other day is fine, just not that weekend". I had to say that because she added that "everyone works weekends, you can't only work weeknights." As if i was looking for a job just to blow my money on the clubs.

Really, there's is no way I could work 8 hours then rush off to Staten Island to run 26 miles- one of the most difficulty athletic challenges a person could ever do in their lifetime. And there is no way I'm lifting boxes after that either. By that time I just wanted off the phone. I wanted to restart.

After a few very awkward pauses she said "It sounds like you have a lot going on...how long do you think you would want to stay with the us?" "Oh at least through the Holiday season" I said thinking it was the perfect team-player answer. Who wants someone to leave during the busiest season?

"Well, we are looking for someone long-term."

"Oh..."

"..."

"...how...how long is long-term?"

"...It sounds like you are not sure about this..."

"..."

"...perhaps you should think about it and give me a call on Monday?"

"...ok...thank you for calling me." That's a good way to make the conversation end, I thought. So we ended the call with me planning to call her back after I thought about what I wanted. The library guard pretended not to hear this crash and burn but he did. They all did.

Is this for real? I know what I wanted from that job. I wanted to almost pay rent. The pay wouldn't even cover it, but could pay part. Plus I'd have to leave time to earn real money when my freelance picks up since one day of boarding pays more than a week of boxing. I have to believe it will pick up or else why am I here? I can commit to that. I can commit to making art, looking for work when there is none... never giving up? Really how long is "long-term"? 6 months? A year? 5? 15? I don't want to be doing this job for 15 years. This is something that everyone thinks, but no one is dumb enough to reveal in an interview. This is why my favorite jobs are the ones without interviews. Well, my interviews with grey were very good, but that had nothing to do with me. They were super nice and decided on me before I decided on the job. They even let me freelance a few days before I decided.

Reflecting on that really doesn't help me decide on this. I could A) not call back and hope that freelance continues to pick up? b) call back and say I want long term and then make up an excuse when I know longer need the job? c) I don't think there is a C. I'm sure there are red marks all over my application by now. Little flag drawings.
